...the rest of the world? And also, we have known since the 1970's that gas prices are subject to sudden spikes due to political or economic factors. Anyone who bought a gas-guzzler after 1973 was taking a calculated risk.
But anyway, I just got back from a vacation to Europe. I visited Iceland, the UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, and Sweden. I rented three different cars and drove myself around for the most part.
Whenever I filled up, gas prices were the equivalent of $8 and $10 per gallon for the most part. America has some of the cheapest gas in the world! Sure, it's not as cheap as Venezuela or Saudi Arabia, but come on, look at the market price of oil. At $127 per barrel we are only paying $3.50-$4 per gallon. That's an amazing bargain!
Why are Americans such whiners these days? Whatever happened to the "can-do" frontier attitude, where people met challenges with enthusiasm and high spirits?
"Our economy is geared towards cheap gas. "
Sort of. If you CHOSE to live in a distant suburb and commute every day in a gas-guzzler, those are your own economic CHOICES. Don't whine about economic choices that YOU MADE.
