why do they make tanks that are too small for any fish to live in?

im getting really really frustrated now, every time i ask about what fish can go in what tank, i get the SAME answer
YOUR TANK IS TOO SMALL.
so ok, its not their fault they know everything, and its not mine for being led to believe that when you buy a frickin fish tank, you can ACTUALLY put a bl**dy fish in it!
what i wanna know i why the F**K these tanks are produced and sold all around the globe when you cant use them?!
or are ppl being funny wiv u to show off that they can afford a fish tank that fills a room? i feel like some of these things are made up sometimes, just to clarify, does one goldfish need 10 gallons? or 20? first time i researched i came up with 5, then got told 10, now ive been told 20, next ill hear 200G! wtf is that? fishzilla?

ive had a VERY bad day, and seems as though u all strangers i dont have to explain myself so... whatever. theres not much point in ppl answering.
oh hell, now im just dondering on bout nothin.
sorry bout the rant i aint to good wiv anger management n writing it down makes it easier than to hit a wall or do something stupid and pathetic.

It's ridiculous. I work in a pet store and have to talk people out of numerous products that we sell. It confuses people, but I am trying to look out for the best interest of the fish. These tanks are made by manufacturers who don't take fish needs into account and they see a fad (betta vases are an example) and try to make some money off it.

It's just that all fish have requirements based on their adult size, activity level and bioload- these requirements are not met by such small tanks for any fish.

Goldfish are horribly misunderstood fish. These guys grow big and produce a lot of waste. Because of this they need sufficient room to grow, swim, and to dilute their waste, and heavy filtration. I believe in the following stocking terms:
-Common goldfish should have 55 for the first, and 20 more gallons for each additional.
-Fancy goldfish should have 20 gallons for the first, and 10 gallons more for each additional.

Very true, better to write than to punch walls. You regret it immediately after and the hole in the wall looks like crap.
 
i know what you mean i had two goldfish in a 1.77 gallon tank for about a year and they were fine just make sure that if you buy goldfish they dont get big they just stay small or just get platys
 
look screw what other ppl say man i have a jack dempsey a green terror and a tilapia buttokeferi in a 3 n half foot tank they are fine been in it for almost a year now gotten quite big but still happy with what space they have

Because peeps still pay for them. Profit is the bottom line.
I try to explain to customers who come into the store I work in, why three Goldie's for a 1 gallon bowl is a BAD idea. And the usually don't care. Why? They want it cheap, they want it easy and to them it's simply a fish. Animal abuse laws do not apply to them, so peeps are free to do as they wish. They don;t understand that the cute little one inch goldie WILL get bigger, and if you stunt him, you're killing him. They may stop growing externally, but internally their organs continue to grow. It's a slow, painful and inevitable death, not to mention the waste poisoning. I can't tell you how many people are proud to tell me their goldie or betta made it a whole year in their bowl. Fantastic. Goldie's should get decades, and betta's should make 5 or more.
The thing is that everyone has their own opinion as to what is the absolute best for fish, I've read multiple books on proper goldfish care and no two books list the exact same info. It's often best to take it with a grain of salt and get the gist.
From what I understand, Goldie's need about 20 for the first fish, and ten for each additional goldie.

First off there are tanks that are small and can house certain fish. Maybe not the ones you want to house but they can and do house others.

A FANCY goldfish only needs 5 gallons 10 is better but 5 is fine for his lifetime. Comets which rarely exceed 8 inches but can get 12 need a bigger tank and comets well much bigger.

You have just been misinformed like many who search the web and believe everything it says.

Most who have sites on goldfish have no clue how to care for them. REALLY.
