Once upon a time, in the early 90's and earlier, boys, and girls perhaps, used to be the main delivery system for our American Newspapers. Now, as is evident in most communities, adults have taken over the job, delivering in their cars. I know my building gets them this way. Homes in my town, the same way. My mother delivered newspapers when I was young adult, in a car. etc.I have never seen a real life delivery boy on a bike, in quite some time.
I would reckon to say, I have not seen a boy delivering newspapers on a bike in at least 25 years since the mid 80's perhaps. Yet, I just was a movie yesterday, where a boy is delivering papers on a mechanical scooter. I kid you not. I think it was about a girl who plays soccer, and falls for her dreamy yearbook photographer. And I constantly see shows like "Desperate Housewives" etc. where they show these mysterious "boys on bike" trolling through the neighborhood delivering papers, etc.
The closest thing I can think of, is seeing this dishevled, seemingly homeless fellow, hoofing it, walking through my local neighborhoods, throwing those free newspapers at the homes around where I live. And he's around 45. Not exactly a boy on a bike.
So what gives, are there communities, that you 'Personally" know about, where you see young tikes on bikes, throwing out our American Newspapers? What is the truth? Why do they continue to show these types of scenes in modern day American Movies?
