Actually, I was just wondering this myself today. Honestly. I saw a gang of youths, and they were all wearing backpacks. I thought... "Why do they need them?" - because they sure as hell aren't carrying any books. Gangsters don't really care about their education. Maybe they just wear them to carry around weapons. It's anyone's guess...
