I notice on sites like the IMDB (internet movie database), there a re women who keep complaining that women are not "accurately portrayed" in movies or such. Complaining that there are not "Strong independent women" in movies. I find this odd because what gives someone the power to really say that there is a certain "way" men or women should be portrayed in a story? These people usually complain when a movie shows a female doing typically girly things like shopping or watching romance movies and claim that it is "sexist". So wait, showing a female doing things like shopping or watching romance movies is "Sexist" and "wrong" but having a woman be "Strong" and "independent" is the "Correct" way? Aren't there different women in the world? Are all women connected by some hive mind or something? Are there really no females in the world who do things like shopping or watch romance movies?
And what's funny, none of these people seem to care about movies (usually Lifetime channel movies) that portray men as idiots, buffoons, violent, abusive etc. So why is that not the "wrong" way to portray men?
