Why do some people not swing their arms when they walk?

My wife and I have been trying to figure this out for a few years now. Most people swing their arms when they walk. It is a natural balancing motion that a person has to try not to do in order to stop. However, there is a small portion of the population that walks with their arms absolutely motionless at their sides. It becomes very noticeable if you watch for it. We have noticed that the people who tend not to swing their arms fall into the Emo male dork category. Is this an intentional trait, or is it something mentally or physiologically amiss in these folks?
