Why do some people not like discussing philosophy, government etc.?

When ever I have a intelligent conversation with some one they will either throw obscenities at me for my views being different or they will just say that they don't like discussing politics, religion or anything as of such, which is respectable. Sometimes it feels like people just agree with everything you say it's like having a conversation where some one says "Facism sounds like a great idea. yeah we don't like the jews either."

So why do people get so defensive or just dislike discussing subjects like these.
 
People form such strong opinions and beliefs about these subjects, so it might seem pointless to talk to them, because you're really not going to change other people's opinion on them iand it just leads to argument.
