Why do some people argue for the sake of argument ?...?

For example, if I say "I think the commentator should have been more careful about what he says in front of camera when millions of people are watching." (this was about the NBC sports commentator making accusations without a solid proof during the Beijing Olympic games) I get a reply "Are you sure millions of people are watching ?". I then ask in response "If I had said thousands of people are watching, would that make any difference to you ?.. To me it doesn't make any difference..." I get another stupid answer like "If you are not sure don't say it, and that's my point.". It just goes on and on like this. How do you explain the pschology of this kind of person ?
 
They're dumbaѕѕes.

My ex gf was like that. ALWAYS wanted to argue. Always started fights. It was that that ultimately undermined the relationship. And it was often about inane topics. It wasn't until long after that it occurred to me that idiots like her need conflict in their life. For whatever reason they need to have to conflict in order to feel whatever it is they feel.

There's a certain poetic license people understand when engaging in conversations. There's loads of things you can nitpick over, and doing so is just troublesome.

Good luck......and tell this idiot you're talking about that in China there's like a million people in one household....so thinking that there's ANY chance there's less than that number of people that watched that at any given moment is slim.
