notions of femininity? Nobody expects gay rights campaigners to focus on heterosexual rights or racial equality groups to focus on the rights of white people? White, middle class, heterosexual men have always had the loudest voice and they still do. It is accepted that disadvantaged groups will focus on their own lack of rights except if they are women's rights. Why? I suspect it goes back to the whole patriarchal attitude that women exist to serve men and should sacrifice their own needs. I'm not saying that everybody thinks that exactly but the notion of women as selfless nurturers does still exist and its behind the indignation felt by people who feel feminists should not predominantly focus on the inequalities that affect them. Accusations of selfishness accompanied the fight for the vote and for work for women in a way that was never levelled at other disadvantaged groups.
