Why do so many people love electronics, and nothing else?

Why is it that so many people feel a tie in to electronics now a day’s just to exist and have fun?

I have a laptop computer, a TV, car, mp3 player, radio, and cell phone. I do not have any video games or large DVD collection though, and my cell phone is rather simple. I hardly go see movies at the theater, and prefer a great real live play in a small theater to a movie. It the same with myspace, and facebook, some people seem to need it, like a drug. I could see myself buying a new video game system when I can afford it, but I wouldn’t sit with my TV, game system or computer all day and be content.

It just appears from my prospective that people buy into the whole sales pitch for everything. I’m not some foolish person, I know movies, games, etc are fun; but after awhile it seems so pointless in the grand scheme of life.

While my income is tried down pretty low right now because I’m a college student, it just seems many people now a days associate fun with spending money? Do simple pleasures not make smiles any more? A walk along the city streets, a great board game, a phone call to a friend, making dinner at home for fun, a road trip to a new city, reading a book together, discussing or debating interesting topics, going dancing, going out on the water in a boat, etc

I like to see a new movie now and then but it seems man people live for that new movie or video game as if it was all they knew.

My question is mostly regarding the younger population I attend college with, in particular women. Why are they like this? As someone in their mid 20’s I find it particularly hard to find women that I would want to date because of this.
