Why do so many people keep insisting on calling Burma its wrong name: Myanmar?

The unelected, oppressive renamed it Myanmar.

Put it this way, if mercenaries and thugs (who represent an extreme minority) used force to capture the capital city in the country you were born or brought up and renamed the country something that they feel suits their unjust and corrupt ideals, would YOU start saying: "well, okay I'll just start calling it that now!"?

I doubt it, you'd keep calling it by its original name as a mark of protest - to show that you support democracy and not regimes!

The BBC, for instance, doesn't call Burma "Myanmar" because it used to be a former UK colony (they don't refer to Zimbabwe as Rhodesia, do they?) - but because they don't wish to be seen to acknowledge the rights of the unelected junta that is choking Burma's economy!

I just cannot believe that so many people don't refer to Burma by its proper name, why don't some of you?
