Why do so many people care about the environment than care about people?

When the worst thing which could happen is the annihilation of all humanity?
Don't they realise that this would ultimately benefit the enviroment?
Afterlife and earth are dfferent matters. One of which exists

In most people's religion they have a God that they believe created the Earth and so they want to be able to look after the environment, at the best of their ability.

They care about people less, probably because not everyone has the same religion as them -so they have a different point of view- and they make mistakes... however, religious people believe that God never makes mistakes.
They also believe that what THEY do will predict their 'afterlife'.

well environment shapes up according to our actions. If we are controlling carbon emissions, the environment responds positively.

People on the other hand, although are influenced by what the society does for or to them, still make their own choices.

Since this is the only environment we have many of us are concerned that we may be using it in a way that will make it an inhabitable place in not too long a time. And if that happens, where would all those people who don't concern themselves go? And annihilation is not really a very sensible alternative. And for those who would opt to waste this place because they are going to another place, what makes you think that they won't take their earth destroying habits with them. If we can get this right then perhaps we can take what we learned with us to that afterlife you talk about.

Without the environment, there could be no people. At least, not for very long.

The viability of humans depends completely on the habitat in which we live: the land, the air, the water.
