Why do so many people believe that the majority of wars were fought for religious

reasons when in fact? the vast majority of them were fought for land and power? It's true that manipulators have frequently used religion as a tool to sway people into fighting and rallying around a war, but very rarely have wars been genuinely been fought for religious reasons.

Religion is nearly always a factor. If both sides have religion in common, they tend not to be so quick to fight.
