Why do so many baseball people say that hitting is contagious?

Seriously, I don't get it - this has to be one of the stupidest platitudes in baseball. I get what they're saying, that one guy hitting well can lift others, but there's no evidence to support it. For every time a team gets on a streak hitting, there are many examples of it not happening.

Feel free to add other stupid comments they love to repeat.
