Why do restaurants with a breakfast theme (IHOP, Dennys, etc.) take so long to

serve you your food? I've wondered this for years now, but I just can't make any sense of it. Whenever I go to a Dennys, IHOP, Aunt Sarah's Pancake House or any other breakfast themed restaurant they always seem to take forever to serve the food. It doesn't matter what time of day or how busy they are either.

There's always at least a 20-30+ minute wait. Why is this? I'm asking because whenever I go to a normal restaurant like say Lone Star, Outback or Famous Dave's BBQ the food is almost always delivered within 10 minutes of ordering even on a busy night. What gives?

I was a waitress at the IHOP 10+ years ago. There was usually only one or two people cooking. I imagine they have more help at the Outback and other steakhouses. When I go to the Waffle House I don't need to go to their kitchen. It's right in front of me with not enough help.

Probs because the people make minimum wage and don't care about their work since they get paid nothing anyway?

The particular restaurants you go to might be understaffed, or have a lot of new people, or a manager who is incompetent.

The food at most chains is microwave food. Prepackaged and precooked. The staff just has to cook to order (the meat) or place in the microwave. (Friend works at a chain.)

You can't premake eggs.

Plus most people order an appetizer at Lone Star or Outback, they eat it and 20 minutes later their food comes out 20 minutes later. You don't notice the time. .Not much appetizer at the breakfast places. IT's just a muffin or some pastry that is already made and is quick to eat so you still notice the same 20 min wait.

Probably because they have a full menu of items they're serving at all times of day -- not just a few platters where they have all of the ingredients just about ready to go at a moments notice (or a little more than a moments notice).
