Why do republicans oppose banning credit checks for non-financial jobs?

They continue living in the belief that "your credit score is your true character and shows how responsible and fit you are for the job". They don't care if you are qualified for the jo or what your education and work experience is. I had medical emergency which landed me in the hospital for strangulated hernia surgery in abdomen. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks and the bill ran into tens of thousands of dollars. I was unemployed at the time and had no health insurance. As a result the only option was to file bankruptcy protection to avoid being taken to court by hospital. After i recovered from the surgery, i applied for jobs and it appeared I was almost hired until the employer found I filed bankruptcy and rejected me. I was applying for computer programmer job. The recruiter told me, "bankruptcy is automatic disqualification regardless of any other factor". And on top of that, republicans already oppose universal health care. And even today republican states and republican politicians try to block bills that call for banning credit checks for non-financial jobs. Only blue states of Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington ban credit checks for non-financial jobs. Maryland, Illiniois and about 8 to 10 more blue states are considering such bans. But republicans and their supporters oppose such ban. Why?
so because i had medical emergency surgery, that makes me an irresponsible person, loser and not fit to do any job?
i have bachelor degree in mathematics and associate's in computer science.
when i asked the employer to give me in writing that i am not fit for job because i filed bankruptcy due to medical bill and surgery, the employer refused to give it in writing
amalone: if a company is being abusive, isn't it government's job to keep check? Why are there so many laws concerning the workplace safety and hazards? OSHA was specifically created for that reason. Also why are there overtime laws? It definitely is government's job to ensure companies don't act abusively
