Why do Puerto Ricans like fixing up old Honda Civics and Lawnmower sounding

Mufflers? Is it a Spanish Thing? It seems that all the Puerto Rican guys around my neighborhood purchase very old Hondas, especially Civics. They invest time and money into fixing these things up which could have been better spent on a NEW CAR. Then to top it off they use these cheezy sounding mufflers that sound like lawn mowers to make them sound fast.
