Why do PNG files look clear but print with the colored background?

I found ones I wanted to use for a personal project and I had everything looking nice and pretty and when I printed the images that I had used came out with the typical white background color.

Are there file types that print clear? Is there an easy way to make the images I have already chosen print clear?
