The torah and to a lesser extent the newer "christian" part of the torah were things to help the Jewish people to survive in the time they lived in and to spread Judaism. It was NOT meant to be a black and white statement and taken as the literal word of god.
Interesting detail tuisson mentioned. Christians do tend to pick and chose what they take at face value, what they read into, and what they ignore entirely. Thoughts?
The bible is not a book meant to be interpreted in any way. There is a correct way to go about reading it and a wrong way. Anyone who thinks it is a holy scripture and literally the word of god has no right to be interoperating the torah, which incidentally isn't a book. It's a scroll.
