Why do people still think there is a debate about evolution?

It's embarrassing that people are still trying to debate a scientific theory (NOT speculation) which is as well supported as evolution. Fossil records detailing the stages of evolution, bacteria like MRSA which has evolved to resist a lot of medicine, and Richard Lenski's e.coli evolution experiment, detailing in real time how bacteria evolve.

There is equally cogent, equally backed up proof for the theory of gravity and the theory that the Earth is round, not flat. Almost no respectable scientist doubts any of those things, and evolution is not an exception, because it has already been proven to such a large degree, that only another MORE plausible explanation could shake it from it's roots, but "God made everything" does not fit this criterion. Just as Darwinian evolution replaced Lamarckian evolution, for evolution to be disproved, another scientific theory about the evolution of life with just as much backing, research and evidence, would need to be presented.

And yet creationists still carry on thinking that they hold the ultimate proof against evolution in their religion; carry on as if there is still a debate, and this debate hadn't stopped years ago. It's a well-established scientific principle with as much proof of the proof of the force keeping you sticking to the ground. How can ANYONE think that there is still a debate?
