Why do people say there is "safe sex" if you use a condom, birth control, or whatever?

There's no such thing as "safe sex." The only way to have a 100% safe sex is that if you choose ABSTINENCE. Yet, a lot of people say if you want "safe sex" try this -insert whatever people say that is safe sex (e.g. condoms)-

I'm 14 years old, and I think it's really bad for the media, community, and the public for them to say there is a safe way to have sex by using this material or whatever.

Point being, why do people say there is "safe sex" if you use a condom or whatever?

Condoms only protect you 90-95% (if used properly)...so there's still that 5% percent that CAN get pregnant.

it isn't just pregnancy that people worry about. It is about STD's, using condoms is very effective when staying away from contracting an STD.

It is very easy for someone to judge, esp. when they are 14 and they have never had sex.

Things happen.. just wait.. one day in your life.. it may happen! Carry a condom!

Ohh yeah my husband and I use condoms.. we have for 2 years.. we properly use them and have never gotten pregnant since the birth of our 2 year old.

I agree that the only safe sex is abstinence.
However, there are people of all ages who either cave in to peer pressure or boyfriend pressure or give in to their desires.

By "safe sex" they mean against STDs, especially HIV.
Condoms protect against HIV..

Using a condom is better than dying of AIDS later on down the road . With the rate of HIV rising in young people and many teens always having sex, condoms are there for their safety.
I'd rather see them using condoms, than dying of AIDS before they're 30.

Well people like me use condoms and dont get pregnant! so its SAFE!!! and cause condoms dont usually break unless ppl use them stupidly. i agree with the first answer.

Sheesh, why the random rant? Its "safer" sex.. a lot of people don't think they can abstain (which is lame but its there lives). So at least these methods are there for them should they choose sex. You can't force feed abstinence down peoples throats.

Well of course there is always a small chance that you could get pregnant off anything. but using some form of protection is 100 times more safer than using nothing. If you u use the birth control properly, such as the pills, you have barely no chance of getting pregnant. sure theres that 1% chance with the pill. but 1% is a very very low number, and most people who get pregnant while using protection, its usually cuz they weren't taking it right, like forgeting to take there pill, etc.If your gonna have sex use something to protect you. Its better than nothing, and also you don't want to catch std's out there, another reason why condoms and protection are good. I think Safe sex is a good concept. but if your not comfortable with that just don't have sex then until your ready.

I agree with you. Abstinence is the only 100% safe way not get pregnant. With condoms and all other forms or birth control, you always face a risk of pregnancy while being sexually active.

Teenagers do not need to be sexually active, you need to wait until marriage. I also feel that the public is performing negatively by misleading our teenagers to believe that there are other ways to have "safe sex".

Teenagers are believing that their "safe sex" method is working, and then ends up pregnant which just turns out to hurt our teens, children, and communities more and more.

You wonder why the media and government lies to us, it is because they are trying to make more money by selling different products. But in the end, its cost the government more when they have to take care of the teenager who become pregnant and then their children.
