Why do people quote the bible in a debate, thinking it has any weight?

In order for the quote to have a place or conviction in a debate, both parties must share the same belief system and convictions about the Bible.

It's like we're having a debate in English about spanking and instead of using logic and reasoning, I'll just go ahead and quote something in Farsi, being self centered enough to think my belief in the quote is shared universally and all I need to do is to cite it.

What makes you think biblical quotes would convince me any more than a Persian quote from my favorite poem would convince you?
AXN: Typically self centered mentality. The world's population is well over 2 billions. Only China's population is over 1 billion. What about the rest of beliefs and people?
*2 billion*
Cassius: You recall wrong. I'm not Swedish. Don't you see the jet black hair?
A lot of things are designed for a lot of things, what's your point? I'm sure Warren Jeffs designed a whole set of rules for his people to follow, so would that be enough to stop using your mind and blindly following? Because it was designed to be quoted? This logic makes no sense LOL
