Why do people prefer smiling photos vs. blank expression photos?

Why? I posted a blank expression photo asking for opinions (i.e., what emotion does it convey? Do you like it?) and every answerer said that they hated it and that I looked hideous.

So, why do people prefer smiling photos?
I deleted the question.

I don't like to have photos of myself with critical commentary floating around the internet.
 
well...actually ppl alwayz like to see smiling faces which makes them happy to have a loook at them and honestly speaking no one would ever like to see a girll or a boy frowning or wid a blnk expression on their face in a photograph....
its not too hard to smile...
try it and ppl would like your photos
