Pls read the whole thing. I took my 2 y/o daughter out to this halloween dollar days event at this horseracing track by where I live. All kinds of people there, and many kids were throwing tantrums or being "good". Anyway my 2 y/o being that she's two, ran off from me after going on the bouncy house w/her shoes off on the concrete (ick i know). Anyway she ran and then I managed to make her stop running so i could put her shoes on when I pointed out this guy with a gorilla costume on and his angel partner (a woman). Anyways she got really excited and then tried to run after him (lol) saying "I want the baby monkey" about him. I finally managed to stop her from running by bribing her w/candy (bad I know, but sometimes it works wonders) and she stood still and let me put her shoes on. While I was doing this, I overheard a clerk say to another one (the guy said to the girl clerk, both young about 22) "when that kid grows up, she's gonna have a bad attitude". I have supergood hearing which means even if were 10 ft away if there isnt a whole lot of other noises I can hear people. I am not sure if he meant my daughter or another kid but my daughter was the only one around "acting up" near them. from what i saw anyway. But she wasnt the only kid there to act like that and I even heard another child be commented on negatively by another pair only he was older about 4 or 5.
Also most ppl still refer to my daughter as a "baby" so is it likely he meant someone else? I know I shouldnt care and admit the possibility he meant her but it didnt bother me til after the fact and I it just really bothers me bc I dont like the idea of my 2 y/o being prejudged by someone who doesnt even know us. Any advice on how to not let stuff like this get to me?
Also there have been some other similar incidents:
for example, a few days ago this boy about 7 on a pumpkin patch bounce house said about my daughter, after I called her name, "(her name" needs an attitude adjustment, a baby spanking" and I ignored it completely. i think he was joking anyway and he was just a kid but still. Then another time this gy said to his wife about my daughter when she wouldn't share a playhouse with their son even after I told her to, "that girl has bad manners". I admit my child isn't the most well-behaved kid in the universe but she's still only 2 years old and this is a developmental phase that she will grow out of and is slowly starting to. She does have more energy than some other toddlers and then others have even more than she does so i dont see her as being any more problematic.
I am still wondering if that clerk meant my daughter or another child nearby? I know i will never really know but for some stupid reason it really bothers me. Any similar stories, insight, advice?
