You know those people who say, "Well American can mean anyone from North or South America."
It irritates me to no end. You know what we're talking about.
If I was talking about a Chilean I would say Chilean, not American. If I am talking about someone from the United States of America I don't say "Statian" or "US-ian". If it is understood that American is referring to USA citizens, then why would anyone feel the need to say that anyone from North or South America is American? Don't you know that we all know that!? Pretentious people saying "well technically I'm correct" contribute nothing.
