I'm an undergraduate majoring in psychology, and I have 2 basic groups of friends: one group consists of people earning their degrees in the humanities/social sciences (Political Science, History, Philosophy, Anthropology, etc.) and the other group consists of people earning their degrees in the physical sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.). My scientist friends are extremely condescending toward my humanities friends and me; they say our careers aren't important, that our work is "easy", and that it's an arbitrary waste of time.
For those of you who are pursuing careers in the humanities, teach them, or are just interested in actually reading a book, have you ever dealt with such neurotic criticism from those in the sciences? If so, why do you think this occurs, and how do you deal with people like this?
PS- I see nothing but merit in both science AND the humanities. Without the humanities, the whole world would be like China; without science, there would be no technological advancements/medicine/anything that we know about the world today.
