Why do people complain so much when a wrestler is pushed..?

Well, I'll just use John Morrison as an example because he's been the face of the controversy as of late. Morrison is known for mostly being in tag team - MNM and the Miz to name some.

He's finally broken away after a year or so of people whining that Morrison needed a push as a singles' competitor. He began getting a push toward the main event, only to be called the single most overrate wrestler in history.

A few people compared him to Shawn Michaels. Correct me if I'm wrong, but since when does a simple comparison of two athletic wrestlers make someone overrated? Now that people have been complaining about John Morrison's push, it's seem to have faltered significantly.

Anyway, what are your opinions on how people are complaining left and right?

BQ: Do you think Rey Mysterio's suspension will affect his fanbase?

I think it is ridiculous how so many people think Morrison is overrated and how he could be called the most overrated wrestler in history.

So this is the thing that really bugs me, Morrison is a wrestler in the WWE which has a history of overrated wrestlers. You want to talk about overrated wrestlers why don't you look at WWE's past history, examples are Batista, Mark Henry, Hogan, and Ultimate Warrior who were all maint eventers. Unlike them Morrison has pretty decent in ring abilities. Morrison is a pretty good wrestler and isn't even overrated in my opinion.

I know I will get hate for saying this but the fan favorite WWE wrestler, John Cena isn't even that good of a wrestler. I mean he is a great entertainer and he can close the deal in a match but as a wrestler his ability isn't that great. Morrison has a more widespread move set then Cena but Morrison doesn't get any credit. For the record I don't hate Cena, I was just using him as an example for why people shouldn't come down on Morrison so much.

I think people must have interpreteded the comparison to Michaels wrong. He was compared to a younger Michaels based on their athletic abilities, not on the mat skills. And I can see how that is a good comparison, not just on their athletic abilities but in general. The are both good high flyers, they both came from a tag team history, they look similar, they are both energetic, and finnally the athleticism.

I think the people that really blow the whole comparison out of porportion were hardcore HBK marks.

There is no doubt in my mind that Morrison should be pushed and become a main event single superstar. He was the better wrestler out of the tag team MNM and he proved himself in matches like MNM vs Rey and Eddie, MNM vs The Hardy Boyz, Batista and Rey, and London and Kendrick. Why shouldn't Morrison get a push, people should open up their eyes and look around because Morrison is a good up and comer.

People are quick to forget how they used to say Morrison should leave the tag team divison and become a single competitor. I mean The Miz is now a main eventer, he blows every title oppurtunity he gets. People said how Morrison was better then the Miz, people even said he was better then his old partner, Joey Mercury. Honestly people do not know that Joey Mercury was an alcohalic and a junkie. Not for nothing Morrison was the glue that kept MNM together, that took heart. Based on Morrison's success, he looks good on paper. A wrestler who held The World Tag Team, WWE Tag Team, and Intercontinental title, why shouldn't he be qualified to be a World title contender.

Morrison has good mic skills, he's no Edge but he has talent on the mic. He is one of the best young wrestlers and one of the best young heels. He also is a wrestler like Randy Orton in a way who in my opinion can make a horrible wrestlers look decent. I would honestly like to see Morrison in more Ladder matches as well, the 2006 Armageddon Ladder match with Londrick, The Hardy Boyz, and Taylor and Regal was a good match.

Another wrestler that people complain about is Shelton Benjamin. There were so many fans that said " Sheltin is so athletic" or " Shelton is the most underrated today." But then the sam people said "Shelton has horrible mic skills" or "Shelton has no charisma, so he doesn't deserve a push." I get tired of people complaining about Benjamin and Morrison.

BQ: It will defiantly affect his fanbase. Let's face it, Rey has that whole innocent and sensitive thing going on, this drug thing might have ruined his reputation. Just like how Kurt Angle stalked his ex girlfriend or his DUI. I am dissapointed in Rey, I can stand people who use drugs to get a boost in wrestling or any other sport. Like when Barry beat Hank Aaron's Home Run record, Aaron worked so hard and Barry cheated with most of his career. Like how Barry disgraced the Baseball players who work had to get a HR, Mysterio disgraced the wrestlers who worked so hard to be strong and fit. On the other hand Mysterio probably uses the excuse on how he is getting older and how his muscles aren't what they used to be, I can relate to him with that because you don't know all the work and injury it takes to be a professional wrestler unless you are one. I can sympathy for that excuse, because wrestlers like Rey work so hard and they get disgraced an look down upon all the time. People say what wrestlers like Rey do is fake, but I want the bashers to be put in Rey's shoes and tell him how fake it is. But overral it is another reason showing why in sports today, you need an extra boost. So I am pretty dissapointed in him.

Because most wrestling fans like to complain about anything that's ever happened, even if it was a good thing. Or they chose to join a bandwagon. Horrible people either way. How demanding.

Probably because it isn't the type of push the fans wanted. Personally I would rather see John Morrison as Smack Down's top heel.

BQ: I'm pretty sure Rey's fans knew he was taking something get bigger. Look at how much he's changed since his debut in 2002. I'm still a Rey Mysterio fan though. You don't see Jeff Hardy's fans caring about him taking drugs.

Exactly, people do this to literally every single wrestler that gets a push. I may be over-reacting, but that's certainly what it seems like.

After a successful mid carded career, CM Punk finally got pushed to the main event. People got their knickers in a twist all over it just because he started feuding with their beloved Jeff Hardy. I'm not trying to bash on Hardy right now but I'm just saying that because it was him and people love him so much, Punk became "overrated" How exactly could such a successful and good wrestler be overrated?

Same thing goes for Morrison. I remember people saying "Miz is holding back Morrison." "When will Morrison main event?" And those same people are now going back on their words and they'll go as far as to call Morrison overrated. Morrison has never been shoved down our throats, and he's a really good athlete and he has great ability. That being said, that doesn't even make him close to reaching the heights that HBK has in this short amount of time. He can't possibly be "The next HBK" because no one could ever replace him.

People need to settle down, they need to just sit back and enjoy the show for once. They need to STOP complaining and never being happy. Things can't always go their way, and just because a certain superstar or diva that you don't like is getting a push doesn't mean that they are overrated or getting shoved down our throats. Now that being said , I don't see any mid carders stepping up and demonstrating that they have what it takes. I didn't say that they don't have the talent and ability (Bourne, Swagger, Kidd, Smith, Morrison, Miz, etc) But I feel one of them should demonstrate that they can be able to handle everything that comes with being a main eventer. They're going to need these guys in the future, and certainly now that all Edge is gone, and Jeff is leaving.

BQ: I don't really think it will affect his fan base which is mostly young. Most of them don't even know that he's suspended. And Vince will probably make up some cheesy storyline that the majority of his young fan base will buy into. As for the older democracy of his fans, I'm sure that they can forget about it. Look what happened to Orton. After getting suspended, he came back and he's getting more cheers than boo's most of the time. Rey is so dedicated, and he really loves what he does. And I was literally speechless when I found this out. I was thinking to myself, "This is the same man that got a letter that a fan tattooed on his body." I hope that people don't loose respect for him, and what he's done for the business and in his career. I might get a little aggravated if his haters start using this against him, because most of these people are Orton lovers.

I think people confuse the term overrated with being hyped and pushed at times.

Overrated means given an undue amount of credit for quality or merit in a field; not necessarily related to popularity. Some wrestlers fit into that certain category, but many wrestlers are either underrated or rated just fine in my opinion. There are two terms of the meaning of overrated in wrestling. Being overrated by WWE means is receiving a push that far surpasses normal expectations such as Hulk Hogan. Hulk Hogan was portrayed as one of the greatest superstars in WWE history, when in reality he isn't. Being overrated in WWE means to that the certain superstar is shoved down our throats. Being hyped by fans is another factor because the fans are the ones that hype the wrestler or give the amount of credit for that wrestler. Randy Orton fits my example well. Although Randy Orton is a good superstar with decent in ring ability, but some fans have said that Randy Orton is one of the greatest wrestlers to step in the ring. That is the meaning of overrated when fans judge certain wrestlers.

I agree that not everyone is overrated and superstars are often overlooked, but i also agree that its the way WWE hypes the superstar and how WWE portrays that certain character. I never wondered much about how WWE rates their superstars because in WWE, its based on popularity and marketability. I've always wondered what the fans believed and its fan opinion that is considered great importance when the term overrated pops up. Like i said before, fans overrating the superstar is what causes people to say the word overrated. I've heard people say things such as Ted DiBiase ready to defeat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania, when in reality that is false assumption. John Cena is overrated in WWE because of how they push him and make it seem as if he's greater than some other great wrestlers. However, John Cena is underappreciated by the fans and don't receive any recognizance for his accomplishments. John Morrison is rated just fine because the fans know his potential and know his talent, but i disagree when people say that he is the next Shawn Michaels. His push is being confused as being overrated by WWE when WWE is just getting more wrestlers into the main event. I think the difference between hype and overrated is the fact that overrated means too much hype, which is what some superstars receive.

I also think it can reflect that fact that John Morrison is now a face. John Morrison was loved as a heel back in 2007, where he was the reigning ECW champion. People wanted Morrison to break away from the Miz and start main eventing on his own. Being a face often hears the remarks overrated. Half the faces in WWE all earn the status overrated at times such as John Cena, Triple H, Batista, Jeff Hardy, and many others. The only faces who don't earn such criticism are Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. John Morrison has been getting great fan reactions as a face because he didn't get much fan heat as a heel. John Morrison's style of wrestling is bound to attract many fans. Being called the next Shawn Michaels is not right. Shawn Michaels has done more then Morrison can dream of. HBK is better then Morrison in almost every single way possible. John Morrison is just getting a push to fill up the main event spots. With Jeff Hardy gone, we'll see new superstars getting pushed to take his spot. We are finally getting what we asked for in new main eventers, but we rejected the idea yet again. We always ask for new superstars and WWE provides them, but we constantly reject them. Also being a heel is what gets love around here because ever since CM Punk turned heel, he has been steadily gaining popularity.

Those are just my opinion on those matters and i think fans giving too much credit to a superstar in certain areas is what made the mentioning of the term overrated frequent around here. I think its best to rightly rate the superstar by giving credit where credit is due and not exceeding beyond that. To summarize being pushed and being overrated is different because one is done by the company and the other is mostly judged upon fans as well.

BQ: I don't think it will really affect Mysterio's fan base. Jeff hardy's fanbase wasn't affected when he was suspended. Rey Mysterio is immensely popular in the WWE and that won't change. Rey connects with the fans frequently and gets tremendous pops every time he makes his entrance. Rey Mysterio has a loyal fanbase who will continue to love him. Rey Mysterio is a great wrestler and his fans realize that. They know the dedication and loyalty that Rey Mysterio has. He will still keep his fans.
