The government isn't out for 'you'. They are out for themselves. However, there are people who go into the 'government' field with a good heart. Many people become social workers because they want to make a positive difference in peoples lives. There are many firefighters and others who are doing their job to make a difference.
I agree with the point you are making, tho. America has become the land of the lazy, wanting everything free and easy. It is unfortunate, not only because of what we are these days, but because this country was founded on the idea that everyone pulls their own weight and does what they have to do to make ends meet and the founding fathers surely would roll over in their graves...
Back in the day, people worked all day in fields and other places to provide for their families. They did what they had to do. Small farms are going extinct, small businesses, the "little man" are being thrown out of business for the greedy corporations. The saddest part is you can blame your own government for most of this.
