Why do people but html codes in the names on MSN?

Example:

[c=#FF524G]Johnny _x.Ma [/c] 'yo.-3

This is in their name on messenger, is it just there for making it spiffy or it works as a code?

Actually, i don't think they actually know the codes. What they are basically doing is they have the Windows Live Messenger Plus Add-on. Eventually it makes Windows Live Messenger more fun, colourful and easier to chat with. So you can add colour and stuff to your name, the stuff you type etc. And manage all the conversations you have into tabs on one window like firefox and internet explorer 8+ does. Just download Windows Live Messenger Plus Add-on and you will find out.
