Why do people assume that certain ages (14-17) aren't certain of their sexuality?

I'm sick of hearing 'oh your hormones are raging, you don't know anything about yourself or your sexuality'. Is it so hard to grasp the concept of being in-touch with your sexuality? I mean, I'm POSITIVE I'm gay and I did go through a 'am I bi?' stage when I was 13, but I just feel like people need to quit assuming. Who's with me? ;\
I'm quite aware of puberty. My question has nothing to do with it. I was making a point that CERTAIN PEOPLE obviously make this assumption that puberty is the reason people aren't 'aware' of their sexual orientation. I'm not worrying about what other people think, I am curious as to why people have such a close-minded way of thinking. Obviously this is a question regarding people who ARE in touch with their sexuality.
