Why do people allow the media to rape your self esteem then sell it right back to you?

The magazines, internet, television shows, movies, TELL you what beautiful is. There's only one way to be. Thin is beautiful. If your bigger than that, then your nothing. Your meaningless, you are nothing. Look at those famous people! That is what you should look like. Ewww! gross, an average body!! Start throwing up, get on that diet, you better shape up or else you won't be accepted by everyone around you!

So what do you do now, you don't look like that tan and thin blonde girl on your favorite television show, so OH NO! The guys won't like you! Hey look at that commercial, specialized diet pills to help women get thin! Wow maybe I should try those. Buy those clothes, because there's no other way to feel good about yourself except to consume more things. The only way to be happy is to buy things. Forget who you are on the inside, **** your personality, what's on the outside is all that matters. Hey, I guess beauty is only skin deep.
Speaking as, I think it's complete bullcrap because girls shouldn't be submitted to feel this way or have to look this way to be accepted by others. Heavy women can be beautiful but their less accepted and if a girls a bit overweight, then they get treated as less of a person than somebody who is beautiful, and fake. I don't understand why people view one type of person as beautiful, blonde and thin, whatever, It's just bullcrap. You shouldn't have to be like that to be considered beautiful!

There's an old Japanese proverb: "If you believe everything you read, then you shouldn't read anything." I don't buy into the media's idea of beauty. It sounds like you don't either.

True. Anyway to sell a product. People are guinea pigs. Suckers everywhere. Good rant.

It is not just the media that tells us that thin is beautiful. It is our evolutionary instincts. We are wired to be attracted to healthy people. The healthiest people are physically active and eat balanced diets that do not include heavy amounts of corn syrups, hydrogenated oils, sugar and salt (plus a dozen preservatives). When you eat terrible food and do not exercise, you start appearing less healthy, and thus less physically attractive.

The media gets away with what they do because they can claim that they are advertising health, when really they're advertising ways to only APPEAR healthy. It is the fault of technology and the modern sedentary lifestyle, as well as troubling trends in our food industry that contributes to our obesity rates. It is disgusting that people now feel the need to resort to cutting corners in attempt to only appear healthy (i.e. diet pills, tanning, eating disorders, etc.).
