why do overdue women often wind up getting c-sections?

my friend, for example, was only two days overdue, but the baby wouldn't come out, and she had to get a c-section. and my mother's best friend was 12 days overdue and had the same problem. is there a correlation between being overdue and having to get a c-section?
 
sometime the doctor worried about the heart rate of the baby or the baby is bigger now then it was before and there not able to push the baby there the birth canal. so it cause for a c-section
