Why do men who run and or bike ride shave their legs?

i am a crossdresser who jogs alot and want to bike ride, i do shave my legs except in the summer months, and want to know what excuse i can give to people that i come across in the summer time and my legs are shaved, i know how to answer them its cause "why" when i am with family or friends they will say something to me and call me gay or something. or should i just grow my hair back and wait till fall to shave again so i am not humiliated? need help ty tina
