Why do many people listen to their white apple ipod ear phones?

You all know which one I'm talking about. The one that comes packaged with all ipods.

I never did like them, and I got a few reasons:

white color
lets everyone know you got a ipod
cheap
uncomfortable
low sound quality

I guess people like them cause their free. but is that the only reason?
