Why do many people center their lives around electronics?

Why is it that so many people feel a tie into electronics now a day’s just to have fun?

I have a laptop computer, a TV, car, mp3 player, radio, and cell phone. I do not have any video games or large DVD collection though, and my cell phone is rather simple. I hardly go see movies at the theater, and prefer a great real live play in a small theater to a movie. It the same with myspace, and facebook, some people seem to need it, like a drug. I could see myself buying a new video game system when I can afford it, but I wouldn’t sit with my TV, game system or computer all day and be content.

It just appears from my prospective that people buy into the whole sales pitch for everything. I’m not some foolish person, I know movies, games, etc are fun; but after awhile it seems so pointless in the scheme of life.

While my income is tried down pretty low right now because I’m a college student, it just seems many people now a days associate fun with spending money? Do simple pleasures not make smiles any more?

I like to see a new movie now and then but it seems man people live for that new movie or video game as if it was all they knew.

My question is mostly regarding the younger population I attend college with, in particular women. Why are they like this? As someone in their mid 20’s I find it particularly hard to find women that I would want to date because of this.

Because technology has made our life so much easier, so why try to make an effort and do the activities we used to do in the '90s?
I agree with you: I don't get what's the point of wasting so much time on the internet (especially on Facebook :/) and living on a virtual world.
We didn't use to be like this some time ago, and it seems we don't remember what kind of activities we used to do. We survived without technology, but now it has become an obsession, and people tend to have relationships only by MSN and to avoid the face-to-face thing...
I wish we could go back in time just a little bit, and enjoy the simple things in life that truly make us happy :)
