Why do I need a 3d TV?

This whole thing does not make sense. All you are paying for is a TV that has an IR emitter. What about all those people that already own 120/240Hz TV's (plenty high refresh rate), why do they have to buy a new TV just for an emitter. This technology has been around for ages, I have a setup for my computer I bought 5 years ago using the same technology as now, and it works on my basic 120Hz LCD monitor. A signal is sent through any video card and is linked directly to an emitter via a cable box, and it looks fantastic! No Special Monitor Required!!! So why should TVs be any different?

...because the new plasma 3D televisions have a refresh rate of 600Hz and you get those retro 80's looking Oakley Blade shades as 3D glasses :) That's right you too can look like a gay Jordie Laforge of Star Trek Next Generation or pretend to be Cyclops of the X-Men.

Yeah I don't see a point in spending $3000-$4000 for a 3D setup just to see a damn children's movie like Aliens vs Monsters. Oh and now you need two HDMI cables -- one for audio and one for video to get the full 3D effect.

This is just going to fail like Virtual Reality headsets for computers did in the 90's....remember that fad?
