Why do I lose picture quality when I save to my computer?

I have a high resolution camera and Photoshop cs3. Whenever I'm done editing a picture and try to save it, it always ends up looking like lower quality, and not like how it looks in Photoshop. I have a MacBook that runs on OSX if that makes any difference.
