Why do I lose my identity?

More often than not, when I go to synch my T3 with my laptop, I find the user name entry is blank and the only way to do a synch is to hard reset my PDA and then it asks what user name I want to use (I only have one) and away it goes.
Is this a common thing with the T3? I must admit I have had this problem in the past but it stopped for a while. Is there a better way of getting the user name back as it takes about half an hour to resynch all the information?
Also I have to soft reset my T3 as the cancel button on the Hotsynch screen has no effect.
Thanks

This happens to me. What I have figured out is there is probably a third party software that is causing your hotsync to not finish. In my case, I am a healthcare professional, I use ePocrates which is a drug program. This program gets continually updated on their website and thus when I hotsync I get updates from their web site. Some of these updates include drug alerts. These alerts cause a stall and sometimes a stop in the hotsync. If I am not attentive enough the hotsync will time itself out. The drug alerts are there, I read through them and take appropriate action and then resync, just identifing myself on the desktop.

Another cause for me is sometimes I get "delete happy" when I am in McFile, Filez, or Fileprog. I have pretty much learned my lesson there and I am much more cautious.

Finally, the softset also happens to me and this is probably due to third party software. I have learned to live with it by putting some precautions in place. I have backup buddy (which is done routinely once a day as scheduled) and I also do it manually once a day. Then I also use CrashPro. This is a little software that takes me through a softset automatically and I end up right where I left off. This sometimes happen because the files might become disassociated. The softset cause them to reassociate - almost checking for errors and fixing them on your desktop.

I realize this post is filled with my experiences and how I have overcome the problems you are asking about. I would not be a bit surprised if Jim and/or Paul can tell you the technical jargon of why this happens. But at least with this reply you can see how I have overcome the issues you have asked about. I am sure they may have other ideas.

Thanks Carol, for that. I have a few third party applications on my T3 and someone else suggested this could be a problem. I could, I suppose, put each program on and wait and see what happens but this would take an age as it is an intermittant problem. Perhaps someone else could point me in another direction?
