Why do I get sharp pains in my right side?

For the past week or so, ive been getting these sharp pains in the lower right side of my stomach. Its not a constant pain. It happens at random times and i dont notice a pattern on when the pain occurs. When i feel the pain it never lasts more that 15 minutes but sometimes it hurts so bad that i have to stop what im doing and sit or lay down until the pain passes. But it isnt always this bad. I also noticed that for the past one or two days the pain is happening more frequently and i get more severe pains than mild ones. Does anyone knows what this could be and if its serious or not. Thanks
