no muffler. 2 inch lift with 33 inch tires
i figure its a combination of these things and me driving like shit or something but no harm in asking.
the reason i ask is because my dad used to have the exact same truck with an even bigger lift and he got something like 14 mpg.

You might consider a gear ratio change to compensate for the tall tires.
If you have a 355:1 ratio (most common) or higher you probably have your foot in it all the time to move it with those tall tires. Change to a lower gear ratio and maybe you can get off the gas and still stay with traffic.
My 99 with 31.5's and a 411:1 axle gets 17 mpg average.

it is a combination of those things. its an old and very powerful engine and the lift and tires add excess weight.
there could be other facts contributing to your poor millage.

poor quality gasoline (the expensive stuff is worth it, i put it in my 1998 corolla)
dirty air filter
dirty cylinders
and many other possible factors
