Why do i gag when i smoke?

Ive been a daily smoker for about a year now and have been smoking cigarettes for about 3 years
i smoke menthols and i gag when im almost done with my cigarette and this has never happened until now i even threw up once ?
any answers and i know smokings very unhealthy so only serious answers please
