why do I always lose my wireless internet signal?

I have a linksys wireless internet router for my house, and the problem is I frequently lose my signal, all I have to do to get it back is unplug the router and plug it in again, but it's still pretty annoying. I have charter internet, and my network is unsecured (I don't know if that's relevant). any tips would be appreciated
