Why do guys like to wind up girls?

There's this guy that I work with, who is a fair bit older than me (he's in his mid to late twenties). He seems to purposefully try to annoy me / wind me up a lot of the time. We get along really well most of the time, but he knows what makes me tick, and uses that to his advantage to constantly tease me. He's just so good at it, that sometimes I don't even realize that he's having me on, and when I get angry he just starts laughing, saying that I'm like covered in buttons and it's too tempting not to try and push them.

But what I want to know is, is why do guys take such joy in making a girl mad? I kinda think the whole "a guy only teases you when he likes you" thing is a lot of crap, because this guy seems a little too mature for that (usually, he's not too mature when he's trying to annoy me), and I know for a fact that he doesn't like me in that way (he seems very happy in a long term relationship).

Any ideas? Does he just genuinely dislike me and want to make me angry?
