Why do games in Japan take a long time to be released in the USA?

Games take up to a year to be released in USA (i.e. Pokemon) if they're released in Japan first. Anyone know why?
 
well ya obviously they have to remake the whole thing by translating it and also when it comes out in japan we dont reseave the japanese version right away to translate the couple of copies we reseave to translate come to USA after a couple of months and other reasons lik ethey want to make more comercials to atract more costomers ect...
