not too long ago, mercury thermometers were a threat, and now those light bulbs scare me if one were to break. I am about to replace the few CFL's and replace with global warming causing light bulbs for my own safety, what do you think?

All fluorescent bulbs of all sizes and types contain mercury in vapor form. This is what produces the light, if you did not put the mercury vapor there would be no light.
