They all have similar characteristics. Flying, firebreathing, wings (except asian dragons), reptile, long, usually very dangerous.
Every continent (even native american, african, and australian) has records of dragons of some sort.
I watched a fictional documentary on how dragons existed, survived the extinction of dinosaurs, and ultimately died out from being hunted by men. It was really interesting and well done.
