Why do doctors have such messy writing?

I'm not saying its a bad thing, because patients aren't the ones usually interpreting it...pharmacists are. But why do doctors have such MESSY writing??? i mean isn't it part of their years of studying that should give them the ability to write extremely neatly...if tht made sense... but i think its actually kind of COOL!! so why is it that way??

First of all, how is that not a bad thing?? It's always good to write legibly! Who knows why they ( a lot of them anyway) do though...maybe they can't be bothered? Anyway, it's good that prescriptions are given online now (at least where I am) so the doctor just types it in on the system and you get to pick it up at the pharmacy, no more illegible notes!

Most doctors scrawl because they write so fast. They try and get through patients so fast that they rush it.

I have bad handwriting because I have to take notes in class so fast, and my writing pretty much becomes trash.

The longer you go to school, the more writing you have to do, and the worse your handwriting gets. Some doctors go to college for 12 years - that's a lot of writing.

I don't know..I'm just starting to read my doctors somewhat now XD Not all of them write messy, but think about it: when your writing down information and perscriptions all day would you take your time all the time? Or would you make it legible for the pharmicist or yourself so it wouldn't matter? So long as you and others who need to read your writing can, it doesn't matter, does it? Well to me it doesn't because they tell you anyway regardless. But I've wondered the same thing! I think it's also a style of writing too.
