Why do creationists and evolutionists debate...?

The fact of the matter is, neither can give the other what they want. The process of evolution takes millions of years, so no scientist can make a monkey turn into a human, which is what it would take to convince a creationist that evolution is right. And God isn't making himself known. Creationists cannot make God appear, which is what it would take to convince an evolutionist that Creationism is a good theory. Neither can give the other what they want, so no amount of arguing is ever going to change anyones mind.

Because if we teach Creationism in schools and lose the basis for science, which is biology i.e. evolution. then our country will, within a few generations, be about as backwards as middle eastern countries where hatred is taught to children.
