Why do conservatives tout "the will of the People" and complain it's being

thwarted, given that...? "the People" have been wrong time and time again? "The People" supported slavery. "The People" opposed voting rights for women and blacks. "The People" fought against civil rights. Name an issue, and you can bet money that "the People" were on the wrong side of it. So isn't it really a GOOD thing when "the will of the People" is thwarted...?
