...irrelevant—when it is contrary to...? Why do Christians say a verse in the Bible is "poetic"—implying that it's irrelevant—when it is contrary to science?
Poetic writing does not imply that the subject the author was writing about has a totally different or esoteric meaning.
Example: Isaiah 40:22 says the earth is a circle, which is flat, but Christians will say that the verse is merely "poetic," implying that the meaning is totally irrelevant.
